April 2004

It seems the year is flying by, unfortunately I was away for the March meeting, but I heard Dejana gave a good presentation last month. This month the presentation will be on Ultra Low Sulfur fuel. By 2006 this will be the diesel fuel for all.

Hope to see you all there.

The 2004 EXPO is closer than you think! It's just a few days away on Wednesday, April 28 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the New Hyde Park Inn. Just be there! You don't want to miss this!

Didn't register for a table? Give me a call right now at (718) 388-0426.

Our monthly meetings for April and May will be at the New Hyde Park Inn and then we break for the summer.

We have received four Article/Bylaw change proposals. These will be read at the April meeting and ballots will be mailed out to the Membership at the end of the month. Please vote at the May meeting or mail your ballots to the Secretary. Your vote counts and could change the way the Society operates.

Excerpts from our Constitution and Bylaws:

Bylaw IV Duties of Standing Committees

Bylaws: This Committee consisting of a Chairperson and (2) two or more Members shall look into the Bylaws. It will report and make known any Bylaw change submitted in writing by Membership, as per Bylaws.

Welfare-Employment: This Committee consisting of a Chairperson and (2) two or more Members will report on employment for Members. It will also report on Members and their family any conditions that may arise.

Scholarship: This Committee shall consist of a Chairperson and a minimum of (4) four Members. The Committee shall have the responsibility to interview candidates and decide who is eligible to be the recipient of any scholarship awards. At the February Executive Board meeting, the Executive Board will determine the amount and number of scholarships to be awarded that year. The decision made at the February meeting is final and cannot be changed for that year. (Amended 5/19/99)

To be eligible for the Hank Hasiwar Scholarship fund, individuals must have completed (1) one year of training at a school of higher learning in a field of study that will help the Society perpetuate itself. Mike Williams of Dejana Truck & Utility Equipment presented a very informative program on aerial bucket lift trucks. Mike spoke on government regulations including OSHA, ANSI, DOT and NHTSA, quality assurance, materials, assembly and maintenance of aerial devices.

Dejana Truck & Utility Equipment sponsored the cocktail hour. They also donated a 4-day/3 night all expenses paid golf outing in Myrtle Beach, SC on June 10 - 13, which was raffled, and the winner was Mike Ricatto of Advanced Fleet Maintenance. The proceeds from the raffle were donated to the Kiddy Picnic. Edward Brunnhoelzl of Farmingdale State University won a Sony DVD player donated by Dejana. Murray Rude of Murray Rude Services and Joe White of We Transport/Towne Bus each won utility bags also donated by Dejana.

The winner of the Big Draw of $50.00 was Tom Volpe of Van Buren Truck Sales. Tom donated his proceeds to the Kiddy Picnic.

At our March meeting, we were able to bring in one new Member and two Associate Members. As I have stated before, we need to get the Fleet Supervisor involved in our Society. There is a tremendous amount of knowledge that we can offer to them as well as some great social functions.
