October 2003

It was great to see everyone back after the summer break. I hope you enjoyed our program presented by the NYSDOT. Based on the number of people who stayed until the end, I think it went well. I would like to see more of this type of programs in the future, one that can educate the Membership.

In October, we will have the students in Secretary Pat Cohen's class at Farmingdale University attending as guests of the Society. Let's have a good turnout and show them what the organization is all about.

Our monthly meetings will be at the New Hyde Park Inn through the November meetings.

At the September meeting, I distributed quite a few sample letters for the support of a Diesel Technician program at Farmingdale University. Please copy the letter on your company's letterhead and return to me as soon as possible. Need a copy of the letter? Call me at (718) 388-0426 or you may download a copy from our web site. We need to move on this issue now.

Start thinking about reserving a table at the 2004 EXPO. The EXPO will be here sooner than you think.

A few Bylaw change proposals have been submitted so far. Please remember if you have a change you want to present, it must be done so in writing no later than the March meeting.

Some students in the Fleet Management class at Farmingdale University will be attending the October General Meeting on October 15. These students are third year students in the Automotive Engineering program and they are interested in working the Automotive Industry as a future career. The Society has invited them to the meeting to get a first hand look at a professional meeting and to introduce them to leaders in the New York Metropolitan area Fleet Supervisors arena. Members should feel free to introduce themselves and discuss issues of the day with the students, as they are curious about what their future duties and expectations will be. Additionally, Pat Cohen is teaching the class until the middle of December, and anyone wishing to come up to the Tuesday evening class, which begins at 6:00 PM, for a brief talk with the students, is welcome to do so. Kindly call Pat at (516) 922-8321 to arrange a convenient date and time.

The deadline for submitting Journal ads is less than a month away, October 17th, 2003. Please get your ads in before that date. Ad blanks are available in this issue and may also be downloaded from our web site.
