May 2003

I would like to congratulate Frank (Cheech) Almona for an excellent job on the April Expo. The room was filled with exciting displays and many new faces.

Mike Iannizzi and Mike Bruce are working hard to make this year's Kiddy Picnic the great time we have become accustomed to.

The Golf outing on June 16, 2003, is fast approaching. Those interested should contact Nick Markatos or any of his Committee Members for information. We are limited to only 100 golfers.

The program this month is being presented by License Monitor and is a must see for any one in the transportation industry.

The EXPO was a success! We had many new faces come through the door along with some new exhibitors. We received a few prospects for next year's EXPO along with some prospects for Membership.

I must thank my Committee Members for all their hard work - Richie Chan, Bobby Fauci, Carl Orza, Bobby Crandall, Tim Harte, John Costantin, Dennis Roskop, Bob Lagnese, Pat Cohen, Jack Lawson, Pat De Martino and Richie Fevang. I also want to thank Sonia Villaman and Donna Chan for their work on the telemarketing and advertising of the EXPO. A great big thank you also goes out to our sponsors who made this event possible:
Agar Truck Sales, Inc.
Atlantic Detroit Diesel Allison
Bruno Truck Sales, Corp.
Cummins Metropower, Inc.
Dejana Truck & Utility Equip.
Gabrielli Truck Sales Ltd.
H.O. Penn Machinery Co.
Metro Fuel Corp.
Mike's Heavy Duty Towing
New York Metro Peterbilt
Oceanside Transmissions Inc.
PM Savvy
Thermo King of L.I.
Zano Industries

We are at the New Hyde Park Inn for the May meeting as well as the September through November meetings.

We are still looking for Members to provide us with letters of support for the diesel technician program we would like Farmingdale State University to offer. You all know that there is a shortage of qualified diesel technicians out there and it can only get worse if the training is not available. There is a sample letter to put on your letterhead that is available to download from our web site under this Arrangements Committee report. Please send your letters to my attention to All Boro Engine Exchange, 59-20 56th St., Maspeth, NY 11378.

No Bylaw change proposals were submitted this year. Bylaw change proposals are now being accepted for next year.

Excerpts from our Constitution and Bylaws:

Bylaw XIII Annual Golf Outing Proceeds

1. (60) Sixty percent of all proceeds from our Annual Golf Outing will be used to fund either or any of our scholarship awards and educational expenses as determined by a majority vote of our Executive Board. (Amended 5/17/00)

2. The remaining (40) forty percent will be placed into a fund to be used to subsidize the Members' cost of the Annual Scholarship Awards Dinner and the Kiddy Picnic. The Executive Board will determine the amount to be subsidized for each of these three functions. (Amended 5/17/00)

Member Mark Kodner of We Transport has volunteered and stepped up to the plate to co-chair the Journal Committee. Thank you for the helping hand!

The Journal is progressing slowly but surely. I am asking any and all Members who have not already obtained a Journal Ad from one of your vendors that you do business with to try and get an ad for us. Please remember that the proceeds from the Journal subsidize many of our functions such as the Kiddy Picnic and Scholarship fund that are offered to the Membership at no charge. All we are asking for is just one ad from each of you. Thanks in advance.

Thermo King Corp.'s Mike Yestrumsky, Shuttle Bus Manager, Bus Climate Control presented the April program and he discussed and demonstrated the features, operation, maintenance and warranty of their ShuttleAire air conditioning system for the school bus industry. Metro Truck & Trailer Inc. sponsored the Cocktail hour.

The winner of the Big Draw of $50.00 was Associate Member Marty Vavarinec who donated his proceeds to the Kiddy Picnic.
