June 2003
MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT - WILLIAM MCVEIGH
By this publication, the Kiddy Picnic and possibly the Golf Outing will have passed. Hopefully they were great successes, as were all the functions sponsored by the Society this year. Too often, we as an organization take for granted the people who donate their time and hard work to make every event, the successes we have come to take for granted.
These same people work tirelessly all year to provide our monthly
meetings, newsletters, data services, financial services, and anything else
needed to keep the Society going. I want to use this letter to thank all those
who have toiled selflessly for the Society this and every year, invite those
who wish to participate, to do so, and to wish everyone a healthy and happy
summer.
Time is starting to run out on us and we urgently need Members to provide us with letters of support for the diesel technician program we would like Farmingdale State University to offer. You all know that there is a shortage of qualified diesel technicians out there and it can only get worse if the training is not available. There is a sample letter to put on your letterhead that is available to download from our web site under this Arrangements Committee report. Please send your letters to my attention to All Boro Engine Exchange, 59-20 56th St., Maspeth, NY 11378.
We are back at the New Hyde Park Inn for the September through November meetings. Until then, have a safe and wonderful summer.
Bylaw change proposals are now being accepted for next year.
Excerpts from our Constitution and Bylaws:
Bylaw III Executive Committee

and annual meeting.
2. All Committee Chairpersons must report at the Executive and regular meeting

of the Committee without notification or a satisfactory excuse shall thereby
cease to be a Member of the Committee.
4. The Executive Committee shall establish the "Standing" Committees

The "Chairperson" on all Committees shall be chosen by the "President"
of the Society. The Members of the Committee shall be chosen by the "Committee

The Chairperson will announce the names of the persons on his/her Committee

We thank Thomas Montagnino and his staff from License Monitor, Inc. of Floral Park, NY for sponsoring the cocktail hour and presenting a very informative presentation of their proprietary tracking software for instant driver license activity data to monitor driver DMV records and drivers' license status. Additional information for their services can be obtained from their web site at www.licensemonitor.com.
Member Robert Lagnese was presented with a plaque honoring his record of attending 50 consecutive meetings.
The winner of the Big Draw of $50.00 was Nuno Tardo who donated his proceeds back to the Kiddy Picnic fund.
It is the close of another year for the Society and hopefully we are making some progress. In May we were able to bring in two new Members and one Associate Member. Things are looking up for us at this point. Please talk with your peers in the industry and help us to get some new members, especially members that want to be involved in committees. Have a Safe and enjoyable summer.

When applying for the Society of Fleet Supervisors, Inc. Scholarship all Members are entitled to enroll (2) two applicants if the student is their child or grandchild, or (1) one applicant if the student is his/her self, spouse, niece or nephew. In order to give a fair chance to all eligible Members, only one scholarship per family can be awarded each year. Each individual is entitled to (1) one scholarship only and no more than (2) scholarships per family in less than (5) five consecutive years.
We will be interviewing candidates from Farmingdale State University
