Congratulations to Associate Member William Misita of Jellinek Auto Radiator who has reach a milestone in meeting attendance records with 80 consecutive meetings, an equivalent of ten full years!

We are also looking for a certified instructor to teach this class, so if you are one or know someone who teaches the 6-Hour Defensive Driving Course, please contact me.

JOURNAL - FRANK CARPENTER

Last call and last chance to place your Journal ad. We need everybody to pitch in and help out with this worthy endeavor. You can download a Journal application from our
web site, www.sfsny.org. or see any of the Executive Board Members at the October meeting.

MEETING HIGHLIGHTS - PAT COHEN

The 2002/2003 new Officers were presented to the Membership.

Linda Mazza, Step-Up Presentations, Inc. gave an inspiring presentation to motivate employees to improve productivity. She also passed out many raffles to participants in the raffle. Our thanks go out to Gabrielli Truck Sales, Ltd. for sponsoring Linda and the cocktail hour.

The winner of the $50.00 in the BIG DRAW was Member George Ferraro who donated his proceeds to the Kiddy Picnic.

Member Mortimer O'Sullivan was the winner of the raffle of a 27" color TV. Morty sure has the "luck of the Irish" as this is his second TV he has won from various Society meetings.

MEMBERSHIP - GEORGE FERRARO

Finally we were able to induct some new Members at the September meeting. We need each and everyone in the Membership to be part of the Membership Committee and to talk up the Society with all the Fleet Supervisors you meet daily. Let's try to make this year a banner year for increasing our Membership.

Inducted at the September meeting:

· Robert Johanson, Shop Manager for We Transport / Town Bus of Bayshore, NY as a Member. He oversees 250 school buses at the Holbrook, NY location. Robert also oversees the Parts Department for five locations, used bus sales and shop equipment purchasing. He has over 30 years of transportation experience in parts, service, sales and management.

· Steven Huresky, Superintendent of the Power Shop for Howland Hook Container Terminal of Staten Island, NY as a Member. Steve is responsible for all fleet repairs, parts, equipment purchasing, maintaining fleet software system and all budget activities for a stevedore fleet of 350 vehicles.

SCHOLARSHIP - CARL ORZA

We are still accepting applications for the Society of Fleet Supervisors Scholarship and have a total of six $1,000.00 scholarships to award in December. Get your applications in before the deadline of the November meeting and make sure you fulfill your attendance requirement.

At the October meeting, the Society will be awarding two $1,000.00 Hank Hasiwar Scholarships to two students from the State University of New York, Farmingdale. These deserving students were interviewed in June and have met all of our requirements for these scholarships. Please join us at the October meeting for the scholarship awards.

SPECIAL ACTIVITIES - NICHOLAS MARKATOS

Unfortunately I was unable to attend the September Meeting but thanks to the help of Mike Iannizzi and Bill Ross, the Scholarship Awards Dinner is off to a great start. We have an exciting evening planned with six scholarships to be awarded and we end the night with our raffle for the 10,000 Bricks. Remember that only two hundred tickets are being sold. I will have brick tickets with me at the October meeting. It was announced the last day to pay for your reservation is November 29th. Please contact Bill or myself at your earliest convenience. Phone 718-886-4020 or 917-699-7740.

In January we will announce the date and location for the Kiddy Party and the Golf Outing will be at the Inwood Country Club in June.
