June 2002

MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT - RICHARD FEVANG

On behalf of the officers of the Society, I want to thank everyone for your support and for giving us the opportunity to serve you this past year. As you know, all good things must come to an end, and my Presidency has reached that point. As the Society moves forward it will be important for new young Members to become involved with serving on one of our various committees.

I want to congratulate Bill McVeigh as my successor; I have no doubts that Bill will guide the Society ahead. He is well seasoned; as are all the Officers, and I know they can achieve their goals.

Frank Almona has done it again. The 2002 EXPO was a great success. The weather was great, the truck displays were great, and the indoor displays drew a lot of attention from the many new faces that attended. Everyone should start to get ready for next years EXPO.

As we head into the summer, I hope that you will consider participating on a committee. We are always seeking new Members to get involved. The programs are being lined up for next season, and if there is something you would like to see let the Executive Board know.

To all of our Members and their families have a wonderful, safe summer and we will see you in September.

ARRANGEMENTS - CHEECH ALMONA

Please remember we are off for the summer and our next meeting will be on September 18th. We will be back at the New Hyde Park Inn for the remainder of the calendar year. Have a safe and great summer!

There was also a demonstration vehicle provided for our viewing after the presentation.

Our new slate of Officers will be taking over the helm on the third Wednesday of June and will be formally inducted at the September meeting. Congratulations to President elect William McVeigh, 1st Vice President elect Robert Crandall, 2nd Vice President elect Michael Cafiero, Treasurer William Ross and Secretary Patricia Cohen.

Member Mortimer O'Sullivan was the winner of $50.00 in the BIG DRAW.

JOURNAL - CARL ORZA

The Journal Committee could use a few Members to help in soliciting ads for our Journal honoring Bill Ross. Ask your vendors for possible ad contributions. If we could get just one ad from each Member, this Journal could be our best ever. If you need help on how to go about placing an ad, please give me a call at (516) 379-7950.

Kiddy Picnic report by Nuno Tardo: Brrrr! Ask Pat De Martino, Carl Orza and a few others how nippy the day started off. But, you know, when you have a happy bunch of children, parents, grandparents and friends it had to warm up. Once those burgers, franks chicken, corn, assorted salads plus drinks of your choice were digested, you really started feeling great. I wish I had gotten the names of the two girls and one guy who wore a shirt marked public safety. They were just terrific, handling the games for the kids; they all seemed to especially like the tug-of-war. Also had a young fellow in clown make-up blowing up balloons and contorting them into various shapes. Very nice!

And, what a great D.J., I got his name, which is Jan Slow. This guy could really sing, not only in his own voice, but also as Willie Nelson, John Denver, etc. He played wonderful music.

One thing for sure, the kids loved their toys, games, playtime, food, etc. Fellow Supervisors and Associate Members, isn't this what it's all about? Hoorays to all who made this day so nice.
