February 2002

January's meeting started off the New Year with a very interesting program that was put on by Ms. Wilhelmenia Wilkins. The topic was "Investigating Internal Complaints in the Work Place". Ms. Wilkins did an excellent job of role playing, and getting the Members involved in the necessary procedures of an investigation. It provided us with the vital tools we would have to use, should the occasion ever arise. These types of problems have to be addressed in the proper manner to protect yourself and your employer from any repercussions.

The feedback from our Members at the meeting was very positive and I'm asking the Members if they would like to have another program of this type presented again. Please contact Don or any Member of the Executive Board if you are interested.

The program for this month will be from World Information Systems concerning the latest in software for our industry, which we know is changing every day.

The 2002 EXPO is just around the corner. Frank Almona has arrangements set up at Leonard's of Great Neck, for April 24,2002. Frank and his committee are open for suggestions from members concerning promoting the EXPO, hours of display, seminars, etc., etc., please contact him with your ideas. We again need help from all our Members, especially our Associate Members, to promote the EXPO to everyone you come in contact with. Frank can be contacted for any display booth or vehicle display needs.

Don't forget to get in any Bylaw change proposals to Tim Harte by the March meeting.

I hope to see you all on February 20th.

The 2002 EXPO is only a couple of months away. Did you reserve your exhibitor's table yet? There are still some good table locations left. Please use the application in this month's Newsletter or get a copy from the Society's web site at to reserve your table.

I am asking for help from all of our Members in advertising for the EXPO. At the beginning of March, you will be receiving in the mail free admission tickets to the EXPO. Please distribute to your co-workers, customers or anyone who may benefit from coming to our EXPO. As a Member, you will not need an admission ticket to enter the EXPO as an attendee.

The deadline for submitting a Bylaw change is the March meeting on March 20th. We haven't received any change proposals so all must be going well.

Wilhelmenia Wilkins gave an excellent program on "Conducting an Effective Internal Investigation." Members were very enthusiastic during her program and programs such as this can continue to be brought to meetings. As I always say, if the Members won't go to the mountain, the Society will move mountains for Members. Put your thinking caps on and think about what you would like to learn about and we'll get someone with an expertise in that particular area to come in and give a presentation.

We had a very good interactive program on "Investigating Employee Concerns" presented by Wilhelmenia Wilkins, SPHR, Human Resources Consultant, KeySpan Energy and Linda Barnes, Human Resources Analyst, KeySpan Energy.

Raffle tickets for a 25" color TV are being sold at all meetings and proceeds will benefit the Annual Kiddy Picnic. Raffle tickets are $1 each, 6 for $5. Our many thanks go out to Goodyear Tire and Rubber for the TV donation.

As the new Journal Chairman for 2002, I want to congratulate Bill Ross on his election to Member of the Year for 2002. Bill has worked hard and dedicated much of his time in various committees and the Executive Board and it is an honor to chair this committee. Please utilize the Journal Ad application in this month's Newsletter to place your ad in our Journal honoring Bill. An application will also be available for download on the Society's web site at

I want to remind all our Associate Members that you are entitled to a full-page ad in the 2002 Journal with your paid 2002 Membership dues. Please forward me your camera-ready ad to Carl Orza, C/O Hi-Tech Security Inc., 16 Rocklyn Ave., Lynbrook, NY 11563. If I do not have an ad by the time we go to print, I will print what was in last year's Journal.

We are into a new year and hopefully we will expand our Membership by leaps and bounds. Please continue to let people know about the Society and its benefits. We do have a waiting list for Associate Members so if we are able to bring three Members in, we can take in another Associate Member.

Please make sure that your dues are paid promptly. After the third notice goes out we will need to review our roster and unfortunately, will need to make some changes. When you receive your dues payment make sure you complete it and make any necessary changes.
