May 2001

The April program put on by Bandag was very informative pertaining to how we can achieve longer life out of our tire casings. As you are aware, tires are a large part of our maintenance budgets. With proper tire pressures and a good re-capping program there is an opportunity to realize cost savings. I want to thank David Crockett and Paul Messuri of Bandag for the program and cocktail hour.

May is a very important meeting for us. Our biggest event of the year, the May EXPO, orchestrated by Frank Almona and his Committee takes place as well as the voting for proposed changes to our Constitution and Bylaws.

Help us get the word out about our FREE EXPO on May 16th at Leonard's of Great Neck. We will have some free give-a-ways and raffles for attendees. Please inform all of your co-workers, vendors and suppliers of this important event for the Society Of Fleet Supervisors.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of our Associate Members for their support during the year.

I hope to see you all at the EXPO.

The time has come, our big moment is here, don’t miss this event, just be there! The 2001 May EXPO will arrive at Leonard’s of Great Neck, Great Neck, NY on May 16th from 3 PM to 9 PM. If you didn’t attend last year’s EXPO, why not? We hope you’ll really enjoy this year’s EXPO. Our meeting and dinner will be from 6 PM to 8 PM and the EXPO will remain open during this time.

Due to the date of the November 2001 meeting being the day before the Thanksgiving holiday, a motion was made and passed to change the date of the meeting to the second Wednesday of the month to November 14th. Please mark your calendars and I will be reminding everyone of the change each month until the meeting.

The following Bylaw Change Proposal was submitted and you should have received your ballot in the mail. You may cast your vote at the May meeting or vote by proxy by mailing your ballot to the Secretary by May 16th.

Proposal #1 Bylaw V Meetings

Delete item #8 of “Order of Business at the May meeting” due to inactivity of the June meeting. The Bylaw presently reads:

8. Announcement of the time and place of the June meeting.

The Bylaws Committee recommends a vote for this proposal.

There will be a new constitution and roster printed over the summer. Please send me any changes you may have in your home address, telephone number or place of employment, address or telephone number if you haven’t done so.

If you need to contact me by email, I have a new email address: [email protected]

I have been contacting some of our retired Members from time to time just to keep track of where they are and how they are doing.

Life Member Roger Tomassi writes that he and his wife Liese are both doing well. Roger is happy the way the Society has grown and looks forward to getting the Fleet Street Journal each month to keep him abreast of what’s happening with the Society.

Life Member Joseph Valenti writes that he is feeling fine and is enjoying his retirement. He has been traveling and just returned from Ft. Lauderdale, FL in February and went to Las Vegas in March. He misses the Society and Members and hopes to be up for one of the meetings.

I also heard from past Member Joseph Schlesinger who states my contact with him awakened great remembrances and memories of the “good old days” of the Society. He is now 89 and resides in Boca Raton, FL.
