December 2001

November's program presentation from Goodyear Tire and Rubber and South Shore Tire & Rubber was very informative, and gave us some important insight to one of our highest expenses - tires. I wish to thank Goodyear and Alan Taub of South Shore Tire and Rubber for the many great free prizes that were raffled off after their presentation. I also want to thank the Membership for their attentiveness during the presentation.

If any Members have suggestions for programs they would like to see, please contact Don Aull @ (718) 720-3434.

As we approach the New Year I ask again for Members to become more active and offer their services to one of our many committees - we really could use your help.

On behalf of the Executive Board, our families and myself, we wish you and yours a very merry, healthy, and safe holiday season.

Hope to see you all at our first meeting of 2002.

Please remember that there is no regular meeting during the month of December. We will be back at the New Hyde Park in on January 16, 2002.

Start planning now to attend or exhibit at the 2002 EXPO on April 24, 2002. This will be a separate event without a meeting after the EXPO. Regular meetings will be held in April and May. Please use the exhibitors application available 24/7 on the Society's web site or give me a call at (718) 821-4096 to reserve your booth.

We must be doing something right! I haven't received any Bylaw change proposals for this year so everyone must be satisfied with the way the Society is being run. If you have a Bylaw change proposal, please submit it to me in writing no later than the cut off date of the March meeting.

Our program was a very informative presentation from Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co. by Al Cohn, Marketing Manager, Ted Maleska, Dealer Sales Manager and Bob Leonhardt, Truck Tire Sales Manager. We thank South Shore Tire & Rubber and Goodyear for sponsoring the cocktail hour and donating all the free door prizes, which included a DVD player and a 25" color TV set.

Member James Gick of Long Island Railroad was the winner of $50.00 in the Big Draw.

We still have five candidates for Associate Membership for induction into the Society at the next meeting. Congratulations to Member Mike Cafiero for winning our Membership drive prize for the most Members brought into the Society during the past year. Please go out and talk to potential candidates for Membership and tell them about your Society and the benefits of becoming a Member.

Inducted at the November Meeting was:

  • Eric Aronin, Vice President of Sales & Marketing for Taurus Supply Inc. of Maspeth, NY as an Associate Member. Taurus Supply Inc. specializes in truck and 4X4 transmissions, transfer cases, axles, clutches, steering, brakes, parts, rebuilding and repair. Eric has been an Associate Member representative in the past and joins our ranks once again.

The Society of Fleet Supervisors, Inc. Scholarship is now closed to accepting any more applications for 2001. All candidates will be reviewed for eligibility, attendance requirements checked and scholarships will be presented on Dec. 8th at the Annual Scholarships Awards Dinner. Good luck to all the applicants and hope to see you all at the dinner!

Missed out on this year's scholarships? You can start thinking about a scholarship in 2002 for yourself or a family member. A $1,000 scholarship won't cover all your tuition costs but will surely help out. We will be once again accepting applications in January for the 2002 Society of Fleet Supervisors, Inc. Scholarship.

On behalf of our Special Activities Committee I would like to wish everyone a Happy and Healthy Holiday and look forward to seeing you at our future meetings and events.
