Leonard Huffmire

Our Society of Fleet Supervisors Member of the Year for 2010 is Leonard Huffmire.  Lenny joined the Society in November of 2002.  He is the NYC Maintenance Supervisor for Atlantic Express Transportation Corp., the third largest school bus company in America.  Lenny oversees the maintenance and DOT inspections in the New York City area of 2,000 school buses, eight maintenance facilities, 140 mechanics and a staff of 65 employees.  

In his earlier years Len also worked for Sears as a mechanic and service writer for ten years from 1975 to 1985.  When he left Sears, he opened his own four bay, full service and maintenance facility with a staff of five mechanics in Valley Stream, NY.  In 1996, upon selling his business, Len became the Branch Manager for Butler Fleet Service and supervised 12 locations in Nassau County.  He was responsible for the budgets, payroll and purchasing for servicing 1,100 NYNEX cars, vans and various types of aerial trucks and supporting equipment with a staff of 25 mechanics until 1999.

Lenny was born in Queens, NY in 1954 and was raised in Massapequa, Long Island.  He attended Massapequa High School and graduated in 1972.  He is married to his wife, Cynthia since 1977 and has 2 sons – Steven, 28, daughter-in law Melissa and Kevin, 26 who recently served with the U.S. Navy in the Submarine Service.  The Huffmires reside in Ronkonkoma, NY.

After work, Lenny enjoys golf, boating, fishing, camping and carpentry.

Lenny has served as 2nd Vice President in 2004-2005, 1st Vice President in 2005-2006 and President in 2006-2008.
