John Costantin

Our 2007 Member of the Year was born in New York City, in December 1935. He attended Brooklyn Automotive High School in the Bushwick section of Brooklyn. After graduating, he served in the U.S. Army as a Corporal and gunner in the Tank Corps from 1955 through 1957 in a tour of duty that included being stationed overseas in Germany.

After leaving the service, John started in the Transportation Industry at Hertz Truck Rental in 1959 as a dispatcher. In 1981 he took a position as Maintenance Supervisor at Transervice Leasing for a fleet of over 150 vehicles. John expanded his career with a move to Gelco Truck Leasing and the opportunity to manage the maintenance for fleet of over 200 vehicles. Leaving Gelco, he moved on to Mendon Truck Leasing as a Maintenance Supervisor for a fleet of over 225 vehicles where he remained until destiny struck.

In 1994, he accepted a position as maintenance administrator at Atlantic Express Transportation, a transportation company with a fleet of over 6,000 vehicles. He soon became an integral part of the maintenance operation at Atlantic. No matter what the task, monitoring the various locations, processing the fleet registrations or even being called at the last minute to play golf, John always gave 110%.

John has been an active Member of the Society of Fleet Supervisors since 1985. In 1999 he volunteered to serve as chairperson of the Health and Welfare Committee, a position he has held for 7 years. In addition, he has been an active member of the EXPO Committee.

Our 2007 Member of the Year has been married to his wife Carole for 47 years. They are long time residents of Emerson, New Jersey, and have two children, Steven and Susan. John and Carole are blessed with 4 grandchildren Jenna, Nicole, Jason and Lindsay.

John enjoys playing golf and fishing. John and Carole also enjoy traveling to the West Coast to visit their daughter Susan and her family.

John immediately puts at ease all those he meets. He personifies the word “gentleman.” I am proud to introduce the Society of Fleet Supervisors 2007 Member of the Year, Mr. John Costantin.
