Nicholas Markatos

Nick was born in Manhattan in 1948 and moved to Sunnyside in 1961. While attending high school, Nick worked as a 'clean-up man' for J.P. Distributors, an auto parts supplier located on Queens Boulevard in Long Island City. Nick did such a great job sweeping up he eventually became the store manager. A few years later he purchased the business and developed it into one of the top auto-parts stores in the metro area. Nick did not accomplish this alone, he married his wife, Christine, and she has provided to be his most valuable asset. Christine worked with Nick daily in the business.

In 1986 there was an offer to sell J.P. Distributors that just could not be refused and after much soul searching, Nick decided to take advantage of this offer. Never one to forget his beginning, Nick made careful arrangements to insure the well being of his loyal staff.

Following that, Nick became part of the Medallion Oil Company team and with his ability, Medallion branched out into several new lines. Not satisfied yet, he tried Clearway Automotive as their account executive. Nick represented Clearway as the Associate Member representative in the Society of Fleet Supervisors, and we immediately put his talents to work as our Membership Chairperson. Nick also served on the Golf Committee and offered his help wherever needed.

In October 1996, Nick again when into business for himself. He became a partner with Mike Psallidas in CDM Service Center Corporation. Nicks' first act of this new corporation was to have CDM become part of our Society as an Associate Member. CDM provides fleet maintenance and retail repairs. Additionally they offer the type of service required by those companies looking to out-source their vehicle maintenance. In addition to their normal customer list, this company is presently responsible for over three hundred out-sourced vehicles. When asked, Nick responded, we treat these vehicles as if they were our own.

Nick presently serves as the Special Activities Chairperson, responsible for things such as the Awards Dinner and Golf Outings. We are all very proud of Nick and his accomplishments and congratulate him as the Member of the Year 2004. If you can't find Nick in his office, look to the local golf course, he plays whenever he can.
