Richard Chan

Richard Chan was born on June 24th, 1949 in New York City, New York. He is one of five children of James and Ying Chan. Growing up on Long Island, Richie attended South Side High School in Rockville Centre where he graduated in 1967.

He enlisted in the United States Navy after high school and served from 1968 through 1971. Richie received training at the Navy's Engineman Class "A" school and River Assault Craft school. He served from 1969 to 1970 in the Mekong Delta of South Vietnam on River Assault Boat Duty and Maintenance. On his return from Vietnam, Richie was assigned to a destroyer out of Boston, Ma., and reached the rank of Petty Officer Second Class, Engineman.

In August of 1974, Richie married Louise Tsang and they have two daughters, Donna and Katherine. They now reside in Staten Island, New York. In his spare time, if he is not on his computer, you may find him fishing the surf along the shores of Staten Island.

Richie started in the automotive industry at Universal Ford under the direction of Roger Tomassi. He started as a Mechanic's Helper and worked his way up to class "A" Mechanic. He supervised the new truck pre-delivery department and later worked his way up to Assistant Service Manager. At night, he attended New York City Technical College and received an Associates Degree in Automotive Technology. Richie has also been employed by Metropolitan International Trucks as an Assistant Service Manager, Amboy Bus Company as a Shop Foreman and Mead Truck Renting as Service Manager. He is currently at Maher Terminals, Inc. as a Maintenance Supervisor.

Richie joined the Society in 1983, he has been active in various committees and on the Executive Board. He has served as the Bylaws Chairman and is currently the Data Services Chairman.
