Leonard Huffmire

Our Member of the Month, Leonard Huffmire, has been a Member of the Society of Fleet Supervisors since November 2002. Leonard is presently the Director of Maintenance for Atlantic Express Transportation Corp., one of the largest school bus companies in America overseeing a fleet of 6,000 vehicles and a team of mechanics totaling over 400.

Previous to Len’s employment with Atlantic Express, he worked for Sears Roebuck & Co. as a mechanic and service writer for ten years from 1975 through 1985. After leaving Sears, Lenny opened his own four bay, full service maintenance facility in Valley Stream, NY employing a staff of five mechanics. Eleven years later, he decided to sell his shop and became a Branch Manager for Butler Fleet Services. As a Butler Fleet Services Branch Manager, Lenny supervised 12 locations in Nassau County. His responsibilities included budgets, payroll and purchasing for the servicing of 1,000 NYNEX cars, vans, and various types of aerial trucks and supporting equipment with a staff of 25 mechanics.

Born in Queens in 1954, New York and raised in Massapequa, NY, Len graduated from Massapequa High School in 1972. Leonard married Cynthia five years later in 1977 and they have raised 2 sons, Steven, 30 and Kevin, 28 and they reside in Ronkonkoma, NY.

In Lenny’s spare time he enjoys auto racing, fishing and boating, camping, the sun and surf and playing golf.

Leonard has been an active Member of our Society from the start. He has held many positions on our Executive Board including, 2nd Vice President, 1st Vice President, President and now as our Secretary. He has shown time and time again that he is an integral part of the Society and is always ready to pitch in and lend a helping hand whenever needed.
