Our Member of the Month is Lawrence Straker, Shop Supervisor for Logan Bus Co. of Brooklyn, NY. Better known as “Edson” to his co-workers, he is responsible for the preparation and presentation of 700 to 800 minivans and school buses for DOT inspections. He oversees a staff of 22 technicians for all repairs including air conditioning repairs, body and paint repairs. Edson has been with Logan Bus Co. since 1979.
Edson was born in Barbados, West Indies in 1944. He attended Trents High School in Barbados. After graduating high school, Edson attended Richmen Tech, a trade school, for automotive mechanics.
After graduating from trade school, Edson worked for five years at 2 British car dealerships as an automotive technician.
Prior to immigrating to the United States in 1979, Edson worked for a large Miami based contractor, Clarence Johnson Construction and was responsible for the maintenance of its fleet of pick up trucks, cement mixers, mobile cranes and other construction equipment.
During his off hours, Edson is a big fan of NASCAR racing and drag racing. He also enjoys watching motorcycle racing of all types.
Edson has been an active Member of the Society since 2001.
