Dennis J. Roskoff

Our Member of the Month Dennis J. Roskoff was born in Queens, NY and raised in Amityville and later moved to Bellmore, L.I., NY in 1968.

Dennis graduated from J.F. Kennedy H.S. in Bellmore, NY in 1970 and married Cynthia in 1992.  Cynthia and Dennis reside in Bellmore along with their four legged son (dog) Buster.

Dennis has spent much of his life absorbed in the Firefighting Industry.  He is an active 40 year member of the Bellmore Fire Department who has also served as Chief of Department from 1980-81, Bellmore Fire Commissioner from 1986-1991 and Nassau County Fire Commissioner from 1990-94.

Dennis' trucking/automotive/fleet career began in 1973 when Dennis was employed as a helper by Meadowbrook Lumber and later where he was promoted to Fleet Manager.

In 1975, Dennis went on to work for Nassau Fire Apparatus Service repairing fire apparatus in the tri-state area.

In 1978, Dennis went to work for Imperial New Company as a mechanic and after just 3 years of employ he was promoted to Shop Foreman.  Not too much later, he was promoted again to Shop Manager of the Westchester and Connecticut locations.  Dennis was employed by Imperial until 1995 when the company was taken over by the New York Times.  Dennis was ultimately responsible for and managed; three (3) locations, 350 trucks, 75 pieces of material handling equipment and the mechanics/techs associated with them.

In 2005, Dennis was hired by We Transport/Towne Bus as the Shop manager for the Holtsville location.  Now, Dennis manages two shop locations for We Transport and is responsible for 14 technicians and 350+ buses.

When Dennis is not working or in the Firehouse, he enjoys fishing.

Dennis has been an active Member of the Society since September, 1997 and has served on many Committees including the Expo Committee, Arrangements and has been working the "door" for the monthly General Meetings since 2000.
