Associate Member Richard Merenda of the Brake Service Group began his automotive career at J. C. Truck Equipment of Garden City Park, NY as a parts man after graduating from high school in 1973. After a few years, Rich was promoted to Parts Manager. He was later offered and accepted a position at TODCO as a factory representative for the door manufacturer of truck and trailer doors. Rich sold and serviced doors and lift gates in New England and New York for the next ten years. He then moved on to Preferred Truck Repair in the Bronx as a salesman and was promoted to Manager after one year. Rich oversaw the complete operation of the repair facility of 18 employees. His next venture was with Automotive Safety Inc. as the Branch Manager from 1991 until they closed in 1995. During his time at ASI, Rich was a member of the Society of Fleet Supervisors as a full Member.

Rich joined the Brake Service Group as a Sales Representative after the close of ASI. He once again joined the Society as an Associate Member in April 2007. Brake Service, Inc was founded in 1950 at their current location in Garden City Park, NY. Building upon a reputation for brake systems expertise the company grew and expanded in 1960 with the opening of a branch in Huntington, N.Y. In July 1997, the company opened its third location in Brooklyn, N.Y. Sales growth in that location dictated a move to an 11,000 square foot facility in nearby Maspeth, N.Y. in September 2001. In February 2009 the company opened its fourth location in Hunts Point, N.Y.

Over the years the Brake Service Group has continued to grow by expanding current facilities and adding new products and services to its line. Today, the company offers an exhaustive array of Heavy Duty Truck, Transit, Coach, Pupil Transportation and medium duty products including brakes, hydraulic and air systems, starters and alternators, filters, transmissions, exhaust, suspension as well as hydraulic hose, fittings, and more.

The Brake Service Group stands ready to serve all your fleet requirements including providing seminars and hands on demonstrations at their locations as well as yours from OEM and aftermarket suppliers. Their knowledgeable people, comprehensive inventory and four locations are ready to serve all your fleet and repair shop requirements.

Rich was born in Brooklyn, NY in 1955 and was raised in Copiague, NY. He graduated from Walter G. O'Connell Copiague High School in 1973. He earned a Bachelors Degree in Business Administration from Hofstra University in 1990. He is married to his wife, Catherine, since 1982 and has two sons, James, 23 and Steven, 19. The Merenda's reside in Copiague, NY.

His free time interests include Classic Car restoration and NASCAR racing. He has done restoration work on various vehicles and presently owns a 1968 Rally Sport Camaro convertible in showroom stock condition. Rich also tries to see one to two NASCAR races per year. He is also a former soccer coach and baseball coach for the Copiague Youth League with over 200 kids.
