Once again we get to honor Robert Crandall as our Member of the Month. Bob is now the "Supervisor in Charge" of the New York City Department of Sanitation's Bureau of Motor Equipments Field Operations Division. He is responsible for all the activities, repairs, parts inventory and payroll for a staff of over 600 people required to keep the department's fleet running. His previous positions in the NYCDOS were in the Cioffe Boro Command, Engineering Department where he supervised the purchasing and designing of equipment for a fleet of 6,500 vehicles. He also worked as the Supervisor of the Warranty Division. Before the Sanitation Department, Bob owned and operated his own service station in Marine Park, Brooklyn.
Bob was born in Manhattan in January of 1957. Bob was raised in Brooklyn and graduated from Canarsie High School in 1975. He has been married to his wife, Wendy, since June of 1980, they have 3 girls, Crystal, 26, Tawnee, 24 and Siera is now 19. The Crandall's reside in West Babylon, New York.
In his "spare time," Bob enjoys bowling and has a 160 average. He raises tropical fish and takes pleasure in doing home improvement projects. He is also an avid NASCAR racing fan attending many races throughout the country each year. Bob enjoys teaching the technical trades of which he is well familiar. He is a technical instructor, industry and legal consultant and part owner of Commercial Vehicle Consultants Inc with his partner Don Aull. He has taught many mechanics and technicians at various New York State agencies and others in subjects of Diesel Engines, Brakes, Hydraulics, Electrical and Management through Delhi College.
Bob is also a Member of the Society of Automotive Engineers. He is on the Executive Board of the Metropolitan Section and volunteers his time to many different projects.
As a Member of the Society of Fleet Supervisors since February 1997, Bob has stepped right up and took over the position of Programs Committee Chairman. He has brought to the Society some really interesting programs in the past. He has since served as the 2nd Vice President, 1st Vice President and Co-Chairman of the EXPO committee. Bob once again is serving on the Programs Committee as a Co-Chairman. We thank Bob for the expertise, knowledge and dedication he has brought to the Society.
