January 2007

Seldom do we get to feature for our Member of the Month, a Member who has a long family history, of serving in our industry. Joseph Carpenter is one of those Members who is following his father Frank's footsteps as a fourth generation of technicians and as a second generation Society Member.

Born in 1967 in Bayshore, NY, Joe was raised in Smithtown, NY. He graduated from Smithtown High School West and then graduated from Engine City Tech in Union, NJ in 1986.

Joe is the Shop Manager for Classic Transportation of Bohemia, NY. He is responsible for the maintenance and repair of a fleet of 80 coaches, airport shuttle vans and limousines. He schedules preventative maintenance, DOT inspections, road service, processes warranty claims and manages a staff of three technicians and a data entry clerk. Prior to Classic Transportation, Joe was a technician at Ryder Transportation for nearly 20 years. He is an ASE Master Certified Truck Technician and holds a NYS Motor Vehicle Inspector license.

Married since 1995, Joe and his wife Maria reside in Port Jefferson Station, NY and have two children - Benjamin, 7 and Sara, 3. Joe spends his spare time with his kids and family. He enjoys working and driving fast cars and follows the Formula One World Championships.

Joe joined the Society in April 2006 and we expect he will carry on the family tradition and serve in the Society for a long time.
