Our Member of the Month is Associate Member Lawrence Holmes of L & L Automotive Electric, Inc. of Ronkonkoma, NY. Larry started his career with Bowen Auto Electric in Floral Park, NY from 1967 to 1987 where he learned the automotive electric trade from the bottom up. He started as a rebuilder, progressing up to tracing shorts and re-wiring cars and trucks and eventually was elevated to General Manager. He also worked for two summers at the Leece-Neville plant in Cleveland assembling new units. While there, Larry had the opportunity to work in research and development where he assembled the first 2300JB alternator used for testing. Larry is an ASE Master Certified Automotive and Heavy Duty Truck Technician and also holds an NYS Motor Vehicle Inspector's License.

In 1987, Larry started L & L Automotive Electric in the basement of his home. Since then, the shop has grown to a 3,000 sq. ft. facility with six employees that services vehicle electrical systems, services and updates Goodall Start-alls and remanufactures starters, alternators and generators. L & L also provides on-site electrical service when necessary.

Larry was born in Queens, NY in 1953 and moved to Hauppauge, NY in 1969. He graduated from Hauppauge High School in 1971. Larry and his wife, Linda, have been married since 1981 and have three children Christopher, Matthew and Stephen. The Holmes family currently resides in Nesconset, NY.

As a Third Degree Knight in the Knights of Columbus, Larry serves as a Chartered Organization Representative sponsoring two Cub Scout packs. He enjoys woodworking, camping, model railroading and follows NASCAR racing. He is also a NYS Sportsman Education Instructor.

An Associate Member of the Society since 2004, Larry brings an active spark of energy with his 40 years of electrical know how to the Society.
