Our Member of the Month is a new Member, William Schneider , who joined our ranks in April 2005, and has jumped right in with both feet to help out. He has been tapped to chair the Legislative Committee and also serves on the Programs Committee.
Bill currently works for Atlantic Express, Inc. as the Maintenance Manager and oversees 58 mechanics and a 1,000 vehicle school bus fleet. He tracks maintenance, DOT compliance and the day to day operations for the Queens and the Bronx terminals. Bill comes to us with 18 years experience in his own maintenance and repair operation business. He also was employed by Butler Fleet Services as a Branch Manager in charge of the Bell Atlantic garages for eastern Long Island . Bill also worked at Atlantic Express, Inc. previously at the Jamaica terminal as a Shop Foreman, Motor Vehicle Transportation and Para-Transit running out of Brooklyn .
Born in Queens , NY in 1951, Bill was raised in New York , New Jersey , California , Pennsylvania , Rhode Island , Connecticut , Delaware , Arizona and a few other states in between. He graduated from Baldwin High School in 1969. Bill received an Associates Degree and majored in business in 1974 from Suffolk County Community College .
Bill served in the US Army from 1969 to 1972 and attained the rank of E-5. His duties were light vehicle and tank maintenance. Bill served overseas in Danang , Vietnam in the officer's motor pool.
Married to his wife, Patricia, since 1971, they have four children - William, Russell, Meredith and Lauren. The Schneider's reside in Port Jefferson Station, NY.
During his off hours, Bill enjoys hunting for deer, birds and rabbits in upstate New York in the Lake Huntington area. He also enjoys freshwater fly fishing for lake trout, saltwater fly fishing for bluefish and playing poker. He served as a Boy Scout Troop advisor, the President of the North Shore Christian School Board and the President of the Sports Booster Club for Comsewogue High School .
