Carl was born in New York City and raised in the Bronx. He graduated from Cardinal Hayes High School and attended Iona College before entering the United States Army in 1958. Upon his discharge in 1960, Carl was drafted by his family as a laborer and worked on many of the high-rise construction projects that now enhance the Manhattan skyline.

It wasn't long before Carl found his way into another family enterprise, Westchester Bronx Truck Sales, the old Diamond Reo dealer in the Bronx. He began in the Parts Department and seven years later wound up in the Service Department. His love of the business and his broad background led ultimately to a partnership.

When Reo closed its doors, Carl moved to the Petro Heat Company as Fleet Supervisor in the Astoria operation. With him he brought many years experience in maintaining vehicles on a "for-hire" basis. He knew where and how to save money. In 1979 he moved over to Universal Ford to try his luck in the sales side of the heavy truck business. In 1982 Carl moved on to H and D Automatic Transmission, the Detroit Diesel and Allison Transmission dealer in Flushing, as Sales Manager. When H and D closed its doors, Carl spent 20 years there. He went back into truck sales at Gabrielli Truck Sales, Ltd. for a short time and once again back into the transmission sales and service business at an Allison Transmission dealer on Long Island, NY. He made a recent move in late 2004 to Advanced Fleet Maintenance in their Allison Transmission sales and service division.

Carl and his lovely wife Kathy of 45 years, live in Long Beach, NY and have raised four wonderful children; Daniel, Andrea, Michael and Christopher. They are blessed with eight grandchildren. They love to bicycle on the boardwalk in the nice weather and are always active with long time friends from the community and the industry.

In our own Society, Carl has been a Member since 1972 and has served since the early 80's on the Executive Board. He has always been active and chaired the Journal Committee, Membership Committee and Scholarship Committee. Extremely active in fund raising, Carl has been instrumental in helping to procure funds for the Golf Outing, EXPO and Brick ticket sales. In between these stints, he found time to serve as the Treasurer from 1991-1992 and as our President from 1994-1996. Carl's efforts on behalf of the Society of Fleet Supervisors have earned him the distinction of our Member of the Month in 1988 and Member of the Year for 1992. If there were ever an indispensable Member, Carl Orza fits this category!
