Robert Lagnese was born and raised in Westbury, NY in 1947. He attended Westbury High School and went on to obtain an Associate in Applied Science degree in Mechanical Power Technology at S.U.N.Y., Farmingdale, a Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Technology at S.U.N.Y., Buffalo and a Master of Science degree in Applied Science & Engineering at S.U.N.Y., Stony Brook.

Bob has worked as an auto mechanic in a service station, at an auto body shop and an Oldsmobile Dealership. He is presently a professor at S.U.N.Y., Farmingdale and is the Department Chairman of the Automotive Engineering Technology Department. His duties include managing the academic department with responsibilities to approximately 100 students, five faculty members and a technical advisor.

At the 1999 N.Y. Auto Show, the Greater New York Automotive Dealers' Association presented him with the Automotive Educator of the Year award. He has co-authored a workbook entitled "Vehicle Engineering and Energy" that is used by Wharton Applied Research Center at the University of Pennsylvania. His knowledge in the automotive industry has aided private individuals, the Nassau, Suffolk and Queens Counties Consumer Affairs Departments and the District Attorney's office during various fraud investigations as an automotive expert. He has also appeared on numerous radio and television programs and has been quoted in numerous newspaper articles.

Bob is also a member of the Board of Directors for the Long Island Clean Cities Coalition, member of the School/Business Partnerships of Long Island Advisory Council, member of the Nassau County BOCES - Automotive Advisory Committee, member of the Suffolk County BOCES - Tech Prep Committee and a member of New York City Board of Education Advisory Council for Occupational Education.

Married since 1970, Bob and his wife Florence reside in Northport, NY. They have two children, Andrea, 27 and Thomas, 24. He enjoys antique clock repair and woodworking.

Since becoming a Member in 1996, Bob has served on the May Expo Committee, Arrangements Committee and the Scholarship Committee. He is truly an asset to the Society.
