Ivan Crandon was born at Georgetown, Guyana in April 1954. He attended several primary schools throughout Guyana because his parents were required to reside at several locations to which his father, a career police officer, was posted. He received his secondary education at high schools at Georgetown and at Linden, Guyana.

From an early childhood, Ivan exhibited a strong interest in motor vehicles. Because of this and after graduating from high school, he enrolled at the Alcan Technical School in the Bauxite town of Linden Guyana. Here he studied fuel oils and continued his education at the Georgetown Technical College completing his studies in Automotive Technology. He later entered the world of work as a mechanic with the Guyana Sugar Corporation. While there, he attended a course at that Corporation's technical school in Berbice, Guyana completing advanced studies in diesel engines.

In 1979, Ivan immigrated to Tortola in the British Virgin Islands where he worked as a mechanic at the Moorings Yacht Club. Because of the competence he exhibited in keeping that company's fleet afloat, he was awarded a course at the Perkins School of Technology in Detroit where he studied the operation and maintenance of Perkins Engines. He was also involved in deep sea diving in Tortola, an activity he was awarded the Professional Association of Diving Instructors (P.A.D.I.) certificate in open water diving.

Not satisfied that he had reached the zenith of his career ambitions, Ivan immigrated to the United States in 1984. While working privately as a mechanic, he attended the Penske Technical School I New Jersey to fine tune hi knowledge of diesel engines.

In 1987, Ivan joined Brinks, Inc. as a diesel mechanic from which over the years he was elevated to senior mechanic, supervisor and in January 1999, he was promoted to his present position of Fleet Manager.

Apart from his abiding interest in motor vehicles in general and engines in particular, Ivan at different times did some studies in accounting and refrigeration technology. He was an ardent cricketer and sailboat racer, his indoor pastimes being chess playing and music. Now with the passage of time as his ability at participating in the aforementioned outdoor activities diminishes, he has acquired some interest in golf.

Ivan and his wife Mavis Patricia have been married for twenty-two years and are the proud parents of three sons: Roger, Kevin and Ivan III.
