Spiro Kattan has been an active Member of the Society since he joined in1998, helping with setting up the sound system at the General meetings. He is an ASE Master Certified Automotive Mechanic and has mastered all of the ATTP New York State Certified Technician program courses. In 1986 he received an Associates Degree in Automotive Technology from New York City Technical College.

 

Spiro resides in Brooklyn, New York with his newly wed wife, Evelyn. They were married on March 25th of this year.

 

Spiro has worked for the City of New York since 1984 as an Automotive Mechanic, first working in the Parks Department repairing tractors, light trucks and other equipment. In 1995, he joined the Department of Sanitation working at the Queens Boro Command in Woodside, Queens. He was promoted to Contract Manager for the Vehicle Acquisition & Warranty Division in November of 1998. His duties include writing vehicle specifications, researching new components & equipment, troubleshooting various problems that occur in the Department's fleet of over 6,000 pieces of equipment. He is responsible for the Department's Alternative Fuels Division, where Research and Development of different Alternative fuels, i.e., Natural Gas, Electric and alcohol fuels etc. are carried out. New products are investigated to see if they can be applied to the Department's fleet to save money, increase reliability or to improve fleet safety.

 

Spiro is a very likable person who is very knowledgeable in the Automotive field and is well known throughout. Spiro prides himself in keeping up with the latest technology. He is always willing to shares his knowledge with anyone. He is a true friend to anyone who knows him or has had any contact with him. His interests are movies, golfing, softball, napping, and reading about new technology. He also spends a lot of time at home on his computer. Spiro has had an article of his published in the February addition of Motor Magazine a national publication.
